Time is a many splintered thing...

It is incredible that so much time has passed since my last post. I am in awe of people who do this daily.
I went on a cruise with a bunch of Air America's Randi Rhodes fans...to Alaska. It was a trip (well duh, it was a trip). Alaska is beautiful and it is amazing to be on a large ship. We had some of the best weather possible-came back with a little color! The lefties on the ship were fun and spirited. We ate dinner with a very nice hetero couple from San Diego. The "we" I am referring to is myself and my 85 year old father. I was pleased to find quite a few gay and lesbian fans among the 200. Randi was not really available to talk with, but it was still enjoyable to know that she was aboard.
MY RANT: The most important thing for people to do now,in my mind, is to fight the complacency and ignorance of most Americans. It is easy for these people to accept whatever bullshit the Republicans throw at them; fear of impending terror event (which is inevitable, the need for war in Iran, the weakness of the Democrats, the need to suspend the Constitution, higher taxes for the middle class (Alternative Minimum tax)fear of the HOMOSEXUAL AGENDA...or maybe something new. We must throw ourselves behind the Democratic candidate, whomever it may be, and fight fight fight. I refuse to give this country to the right wing. Perhaps the youth will realize the load of crap they have been sold, and the fact that buying things does not make people happier, prettier or smarter. (It just makes them in debt.) They will have to wake up to the fact that they have to be a part of making this world better, and not just their own pocketbook. But some call me a dreamer....
Anyone in LA this weekend and want to support some funny broads, ck out the Broad Humor Film Festival in Venice. broadhumor.com
Its cheap and funny!

A simple question, really.

Is anyone else appalled that Karl Rove remains in the Bush Administration? This guy is a criminal and continues to manipulate and turn inside out every action that occurs. His stay on point command seems to work. Lack of health care? 9/11-Fight terrorism. Immigration issue? 9/11-Fight Terrorism. Women's right to choose? 9/11 Fight terrorism.
Why are the Democrats* not pointing out the lies? Remember when Bush said he would get to the bottom of the leak in the White House? Nope, never did.
Oh the list goes on, and I have just a minute to finish this up, but why do we let this lying sack of poison continue to live in government? Do we really get the government we deserve? I hope not. Common, there must be some way we can get this evil out of our lives.
And my condolences go out to the families of the military. How must it feel to know that you were manipulated and lied to as a way of getting young bodies (and many not so young) to fight? I understand that you must continue to live in denial in order not to go crazy. But really we need your righteous anger now to stop the senseless murder of more soldiers, translators and news-people as well as as civilians. Embrace the difficult, save lives.

* Please buy some guts Democrats...its hard to think of donating to a bunch of people too scared to put their feet on the line.

Is it wrong to celebrate a death?

Normally I might answer that the old adage of not speaking ill of the dead would apply. After all, they can no longer defend themselves. But would one think of NOT criticizing someone such as say, Hitler, Idi Amin, Saddam Husein,Franco etc? And so it is with Jerry Fawell. HURRAY! YOU WERE A BAD HUMAN BEING. Full of hate, ignorance and bigotry. Why? Because Fear Mongering pays the bills, and pays REALLY well. Look at the professional Hate Mongers- Fox TV, the Catholic Church. Clearly it is easier to fear than analyze or inform.
And now to something very important.

Time for Blogging?

I am amazed that people are able to do this on a regular basis. Kudos fellow bloggers! I have very little excuse not to write on a daily basis, and yet, I don't. Well, I am going to go with the "less is more" theory of blogging. Deep, pithy blogs from this blogster.
My favorite bumper sticker a few years ago was "Where are we going and why are we in this handbasket?"and it is one that seems to be relevant yet again (never not relevant you say?) I feel like I am in a bad episode of the Twilight Zone with Bush et al. These people apparently have never made a mistake in their privileged lives, and thus have never had to re-evaluate, change direction, make amends. Wow! Ok I might be able to live with that if it did not involve other peoples lives. And just what is up with this sense of duty to one's country when one's country doesn't give a crap? Why aren't these people getting it? Do they really have to loose limbs to figure it out? I don't want to disparage these military people, but get a clue! Read a little history, take a course on media manipulation. Think. Subvert the status quo.
More on that later. I'm tired.

May Day-or Make My Day

Fun to watch the sparks fly with George Tenet. Name calling, hair pulling. Is it WWF or what? I am excited about all the crumbling that is occurring within the Bush Administration-unfortunately Cheney and Rove seem to be bullet proof. I hope against hope I am wrong on this. Those two are EV"IL. But maybe there is hope with Gonzales....
And after watching Penn and Teller's BULLSHIT last night, where they paid illegal immigrants to build a boarder fence and then get over, under and through it, I am convinced that the government has the brain power of a nat. Not to mention those idiots who sit on the border protecting the country from the terrorism of low paid workers! Well maybe those minutemen are right....they are paid to little.
Meanwhile, I have to find a way to politely tell a distant family members that I can not go to their wedding until it becomes legal for gay people to be married. I am on a wedding boycott. But do I send a gift? What is the etiquette in this situation? Please send a comment if you have an answer!

Hey, anyone with a sense of humor and adventure should join me on a cruise to Alaska with about 200 other Air America/Randi Rhodes fans. It is in August and I would love if people under 50 would come along! Check it!

Blame.....SOMEONE!

It's what we do best. We blame. We can not find an acceptable rationale-mostly because it is outside of our ability to conceive of the act in the first place-so, we assert blame. Let's blame the College Police. Let's blame the immigrant community. Let's blame the mental health system. Let's blame the gun manufacturers (ok-well that is relevant). But truly we humans must have a reason. Why? Its the question we ask always. It is how we have progressed as a species. We ask WHY. Asking why the blood acquires a virus, asking why the weather is changing, asking why a child cries are questions that we can answer. Asking why a man shoots apparently random victims....not going to get that answer. Even if he remained alive, would we ever be satisfied with his answer? Accepting that these things happen is the hardest thing we humans can do and it seems so passive. Instead we try to DO something, and blame is active.
Grief is passive-it sits heavy on the soul and won't let go until it is time. How does this knowledge get disseminated? It doesn't. One has to experience it-like the taste of food. Description is just not enough. The best we can hope for is that it passes sooner then later. Life goes on and it is our prime directive-to survive, to remember, and ultimately, to learn.

Is this real...or am I dreaming?

President Bush, not realizing that the microphone was still on, admitted to Hannity and
Coles, that perhaps stem cell research could be a viable option if science could determine the sexuality of an embryo. “That way we could get rid of the future gays and keep these (expletive) right wing jokers quiet all at the same time!”
Barbara Bush was heard to utter that maybe abortion would have been appropriate in certain circumstances….

Some more thoughts on Blog Against Theocracy

I took a look at list of Bloggers who have weighed in on the Blog Against Theocracy and it is amazingly long!
Check it! (and they haven't finished adding in all of them, including yours truly)
I have to say this makes me feel a whole lot better! Perfect for the day-now I know very little about Jesus, but I'd like to think that he would be a blogger too.

Blog Against Theocracy

In order to stave off the inevitable (mood altering medication), I have decided to join the masses of opinionated bloggers. The Blog Against Theocracy is the perfect place to start.
I have been receiving the emails of AU-Americans United, which has done amazing work in this area. The particular rant I am on has to do with taxes. Why do we continue to give religious institutions tax-exempt status. I believe that many of these so called religions would disappear if that was changed. Plus then they would truly be able to express their political opinion, since that is what they do anyway. True institutions would have to do more fund raising to pay taxes, but perhaps it is time for all organizations to get out of the "non-profit" game anyway. There has to be another way to protect the groups that are actually helping while sifting out the con artists.
